What to Wear - Thanksgiving Day

As I grew up in England, celebrating Thanksgiving is still quite a novelty for me. And one I embrace fully. It's an opportunity for people to get together with friends and family and celebrate all the various things we can all be thankful for. While it often seems easier to bemoan all the things we don't have and create endless lists of what we want, sometimes it's quite nice to sit back, relax and be grateful for what we do have.

Thanksgiving Day, just like Christmas centres around an absolute feast of a meal so its often tricky to strike that delicate balance between an outfit that is stylish and allows you enough ...ahem, breathing space.

Happy Thanksgiving.

HalstonaHeritage Faux Fur Coat - Such an easy way to glam up an outfit and the subtle grey of this jacket gives it a more retro feel.

Vanessa.Bruno Jumper Dress - Designed to be worn loose fitting, you'll have plenty of wiggle room, the mohair blend will keep you warm and toasty and the subtle metallic lurex gives it a festive sheen and air of glamour.

Sonia.Rykiel Earrings - Simple enough yet festive, these earrings are a fun choice that are versatile enough for day and night.

MajeaClutch - The bold orange clutch gives a playful and powerful punch of colour to the simple, classic colours of the outfit.

Zara Shoes - These shoes make the biggest difference to the outfit. Flat would work well with the outfit if you want more comfort but stellar shoes like this really tip it over the edge from cool to hot.

Borghese Splendore Brightening Makeup - A few secret weapons in your makeup kit go a long way and I don't wear foundation but a tiny bit of this on your skin lends it the most fantastic and radiant glow (to make up for the lack of sleep, water, fruit and vegetables!). This skin brightener can be found for a great price at Image Beauty, an online retailer of affordable beauty supplies and cosmetics.

Committed

A few months ago I had the pleasure of meeting Anna Sheffield when she popped in to visit Betsy at Love & Luxe (see my previous love letter to Love & Luxe here).

Love & Luxe is easily my favourite jewelry spot in SF, with its unique blend of insanely cool pieces with a broad range of prices. No joke, every time I visit I fall head over heels in love with something else (my current favourite being the pale green amethyst solitaire ring by Betsy Barron).

Anna Sheffield is badass. Seriously. In the best way possible. I loved her whole vibe and I was pretty bling-struck when she said she owned the ridiculously cool brand Bing Bang. I was a kid in a candy store when I realised she was there to chat with Betsy about her bridal and commitment collection. I've seen a bajillion rings and love millions of them but Anna's are definitely something very special. From her mix of metals and inverted stones to the modern yet vintage aesthetic, any one of these is a ring I would easily commit to.

Anna Sheffield Bridal & Commitment can be found at Love & Luxe, 1169 Valencia St, San Francisco.

Heavy Metal

A metallic finish can be a subtle or striking, glamorous or edgy way to shine through. It all depends on the choices you make and what you do with them. At the moment I'm most drawn to burnt golds and bronze and here are some of my favourites.

Gold Jeans from Zara as worn by the ever fabulous Karla.

Topshop Gold Silk T-Shirt $120  |  Asos Gold Mirror Finish Belt $11  |  Marc Jacobs Bronze Leather Bag $575

Zara Metallic Blazer $90  |  Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow $20  |  Clemens en August Metallic Skirt $695 now $174

Topshop Gold Foil Skirt $50  |  Marc by Marc Jacobs Panther Cut Out Cuff $80  |  Yves Saint Laurent Tribtoo $795

Zara Bucket Bag $99  |  Zara Gold Pointy Heels £60

Two-Tone

I've found myself drawn to the appeal of two-tone accessories this season. Camel and black in particular. And while I was researching images I came across this Chanel bag and realised it deserved a post of its own. I've seen many a Chanel bag and I've never seen this one before. And I absolutely love it.

Prom Preview

It’s just over a week till Thanksgiving so I think we can safely say the party season is in full swing. Which also means Prom season is in full swing. The lovely..people at David’s Bridal asked me to share the news that they'll be launching their 2012 Prom Collection at the end of this month.

The easy to wear, affordable collection of Prom Dresses will make sure you light up the night as you dance your night away.

The BejeweledvCollection features bold jewel tones, ornate beading and embellishments that will sparkle and shine with every step you take.

Adore-A-Ball is for the Prom Princesses who want to make a grand entrance in a magically full skirted gown that float as you glide in.

With such show stopping dresses, I’d recommend keeping accessories simple so an elegant pair of metallic heels and a clutch bag are all you need to make sure you’re the belle of the ball.

Here are my favorite picks from the collection.

Outnet Sale

As much as I love Net-A-Porter for its revolutionary design, simplicity and ease, I love their sister site The Outnet just as much for their permanently on sale prices.

And today, the sale of all sales, the clearance sale is on.

Here are my favourite party pieces. So clickety click!

D&G Gold Dress $1505 now $180. Yep, almost 90% off. Its not the easiest of dresses to wear but it is mighty fabulous and will easily outshine just about every other cocktail dress in the room.

Matthew Williamson $1705 now $205. An easier dress to wear than the gold number, its cute, sexy and fun all at the same time. And what a discount.

Dominic Jones Gold Plated Knuckleduster $680 now $80. I've been in love with Dominic Jones rings for a long time and with that stonking discount, it seems the time has come for us to finally meet.

Sigerson Morrison $650 now $78. That's quite a moderate looking heel so I think these could pass as some seriously dope daytime shoes.

Aminaka Wilmont Draped Silk-Satin Skirt $490 now $58. The silk-satin gives a staple black mini a luxe edge. Love.

James Jeans $160 now $19. In the midst of all this high octane finery, sometimes you just want to kickback and relax comfortably. Jeggings/leggings/jeans will always win that battle.

Winter Weather Weapons

One particularly brutal winter in London (and on a handful of snowboarding trips) I discovered a few tricks to make unbearably cold weather more bearable. These findings were made on the assumption that most of us, against our will, need to leave the house on those days when its just too damn cold.

Step 1. Wear a hat. Ideally made of wool or cashmere. Trapping any heat escaping from your body and cocooning yourself in your own body heat.

2. Cashmere. Cashmere. Cashmere. Yes ts pricey but look after it well and it will last a lifetime. Uniqlo and Zara do some good quality cashmere at great prices and keep an eye on the sale sites like Gilt (they just started international shipping too....finally!).

3. Step 3. Layer away! A cashmere scarf, cashmere jumper over a thermal top and cashmere blend tights....toasty!

Top Row - Hats:

Topshop Orange Fedora £25  |  Forever 21 Purple Floppy Hat $16  |  Topshop Grey Beaded Turban $26  |  Asos Stripy Beanie £12

Second Row - Scarves:

Topshop Faux Fur £40  |  H&M Faux Fur Leopard Print Scarf $18  |  Topshop Mulberry Snood $32  |  Topshop Beige Snood $32

Third Row - Knitwear:

Twenty8Twelve Fairisle Cardigan $340 now $102  |  Isabel Marant Cashmere Jumper Dress $715  |  APC Belted Wool & Cashmere Dress $385

Coral N Peal Cashmere Jumper $245 now $110

Bottom Row - Accessories:

Topshop Pink Arm Warmers $28  |Topshop Whipstitch Tights £10. These won't do much to keep you warm but they're so fierce!

H&M Gloves $4  |  Neiman Marcus Cashmere Socks $24

Giambattisa Valli

Mr Valli is one of those designers whose creations manage to be mad sexy yet refined and elegant all at the same time. I've been a fan for a long time but his awe-inspiring prices have maintained a healthy distance between us. So I was quite intrigued to hear and see all about his collection for Macy's. Lots of bold colours, ruffles and leopard print comprise the collection of party perfect dresses to celebrate in all through the holiday season.

All Giambattista Valli for Impulse dresses $109

Giambattista Valli for Impulse Puff Sleeve Metallic Jacquard Dress $139

Giambattista Valli for Impulse Sleeveless Petal Detail Dress $139

Giambattisa Valli for Impulse Strapless Organza Ruffled Tiered Belted Dress $139

A Little Leopard

I love leopard in a big way and I often have to restrain myself in the presence of the printed stuff otherwise I'd be at risk of animal print overkill. Which is never a winning look.

A little leopard clutch is the latest item firmly on my radar and here are some of my favourites around at the moment.

model images:  Style Scrapbook

From Top to Bottom:

Rebecca Minkoff $295. I love the way the black leather and dark metal accents toughen up the style of this clutch.

Warehouse Clutch $80 now $65. Leopard print pony skin is such a classic combo and at such a fantastic price.

Asos $35. An outsize clutch is perfect for day to night as its big enough for practicality yet sophisticated enough for night.

Dolce & Gabbana $1375. The big kahunas of all things leopard print this little baby would be a dream to own.

Bottom Row (Left to Right):

J Crew $138. Its an ideal size and the envelop shape and the chain strap make it just that little bit more interesting.

Meli Melo $555. I absolutely adore the unusual shape of this teeny tiny bag.

Topshop $70. While I'm a little undecided about neon leopard print, if anything would convince me, it would be this.

Candy Coated

Overnight, Autumn descended on San Francisco. It went from very warm to seriously chilly overnight and once I got over the initial temperature shock, I started getting ready to embrace a few months of winter weather gear.

Over the weekend I was catching up on my online magazines and when I came across this amazing coat feature on my net-a-porter app, I just had to share.

Zero Maria Cornejo Coat |   Burberry Prorsum Coat |  The Row Coat

Lanvin Cape |  A.P.C. Turtleneck Cape  |  Stella McCartney Wool Tweed Cape

Yves Saint Laurent Tweed Cape  |  Michael by Michael Kors Shearling Trim Coat  |  Carven Leather Collar Coat

Burberry Knitted Wool Blend Coat  |  Belstaff Shearling Coat  |  Chloe Oversized Shearling Coat
